Choosing your diamond

Determining the quality of a gemstone involves what jewellers refer to as the Four C’s; Cut, Colour, Clarity and Carat.

The cut of a diamond can mean its shape. However, in terms of quality, the cut refers to the technical precision with which the diamond has been cut. It is this precision that brings out the diamond's incredible sparkle. The quality of a diamond’s cut is as important as its colour. Just like the colour, a diamond’s cut is certified on a sliding scale. Look for ‘Ideal’ or ‘Excellent’ grades to ensure a diamond that is vibrant and full of life.

At Chupi we only source diamonds with the highest grades of cut. This ensures an engagement ring that is truly remarkable.

Aside from fancy diamonds, the best ‘colour’ for a diamond, is actually no colour at all. This absence of colour allows the diamond to reflect more light, enhancing its captivating sparkle. Colour is graded on a scale starting with the highest grade ‘D’ and sliding down to the lowest grade 'Z'. The differences in colour of a diamond graded D,E or F is impossible to see with the naked eye. This makes D,E or F grade diamonds excellent options for engagement rings. Colours below a grade H are less desirable. When selecting a diamond for your engagement ring, ensure to ask about the diamond’s colour grade.

At Chupi we source diamonds in colours D, E or F to ensure a stunning, pure appearance that truly captivates.

A diamond’s clarity is very important to consider. Tiny imperfections in a diamond will affect its ability to sparkle. Clarity measures the purity of a diamond and is graded on a scale. The highest grade is "Internally Flawless' (IF). From here the scale slides all the way down to the lowest grade of 'Inclused' (I3). Grades of clarity between IF and VS1 are invisible to the naked eye and a great quality choice for your engagement ring.

At Chupi we only source diamonds with clarity grades of VS1 or above. This ensures a stunning engagement ring that maximises the stone’s natural beauty.

Carat weight is a testament to the diamond's size, rather than a measure of love. The carat simply signifies the diamond’s weight, akin to units like kilos or pounds. 1 carat weighs approximately 0.2 grams. Different cuts will look very different even if they are the same carat weight. Focusing on finding a beautiful cut, in a great colour with wonderful clarity will ensure a stunning diamond for your engagement ring.

At Chupi we can source any diamond cut, colour, clarity or carat weight that you require. You can be rest assured the engagement ring will be perfect so you can focus on planning the proposal.
