The Chupi Engagement Series: Kate & Darragh

Recently we put a call out to all recently engaged Chupi couples and asked them to share the details of their engagement with us. We are very excited to announce the next couple in our series, Kate and Darragh who told us about their picturesque engagement on Cuilcagh Mountain in Fermanagh.

“We met back in November 2013. After swiping right on tinder we went for our first date to Alfie’s on South William Street for cocktails. I remember that date so well,  we met outside St Stephens Green shopping centre. I was wearing a neon yellow blazer that still haunts me, what was I thinking! Obviously Darragh wasn’t too put off as I’m still here to tell the tale! As cheesy as this sounds I knew on that date that this was the start of something special. Neither of us wanted the date to end and we arranged for a second date the next week.”

The Proposal

“The proposal, I’m still in shock and can’t believe I’m engaged! Darragh made it so special and the way he proposed was just so us! It was my birthday, 13th of April and we hiked Cuilcagh Mountain in Fermanagh. I’m from Cavan and knew we would be there for the weekend of my birthday. Back in February I suggested to do this hike, little did I know what was to come! We love hiking and being outdoors so I was completely taken by surprise when Darragh went down on one knee. We headed off nice and early on the day, bringing my brother and his fiancé Eimear with us too – something totally normal as we are all very close as a family.

The hike is beautiful, it’s been named ‘the stairway to heaven’ and I completely see why. We were one of the first people to get to the top. Of course, me being me wanted a photo of the two of us. I asked Eimear would she take some photos, she was snapping away and I said “let’s get a photo looking out to the distance”. When I turned around, Darragh was down on one knee saying ‘Kate Kelly, will you marry me’. My heart was ready to explode with excitement, shock and love! You can see from the photos I was pretty shocked and I couldn’t stop screaming! I was just so excited to be engaged to my best friend, he’s my everything!”

The Engagement Ring

“The funny thing is when Darragh proposed all I saw was the pink Chupi box. I was so excited to see it that it took me ages to actually open the box! But when I did the ring, oh the ring is beautiful! Darragh picked the Solid Gold Crown of Love Ring in Grey Diamond and he said the 5 grey diamonds were for 5 years together, swoon! Darragh knew I always wanted a Chupi ring. I’ve been a huge fan of Chupi’s for years. I remember the first time I met her was at a sample sale in an old Georgian house on Merrion Square, I think that could be 5 years ago. On our 1st anniversary together Darragh got me a Chupi ring and I still love it!

There’s so much chat about what an engagement ring should look like or keeping with tradition. For me, it’s about our love story and adding another chapter with the symbol of the ring. Every piece of jewellery has a story and I love the feeling I get when I look down at my ring. It makes me remember all the highs & lows we’ve shared as a couple and how lucky we are to have found each other and be so in love.”

“I always knew Kate wanted a Chupi ring, I’ve bought her a few pieces over the years and I love the way they look on her. An engagement ring is something that lasts a lifetime and I wanted to be sure I bought the right one. Shopping online was easiest for me, I had made sure I knew Kate’s ring size beforehand. Once I saw the Crown of Love Ring in Grey Diamond I knew I had found a piece she would love forever. It stood out to me as a unique ring and one that suited Kate’s style, I know she will treasure it forever.

We are totally in the engagement bubble and the bubbly is still flowing! We’re off on a little holiday to celebrate just the two of us and I cannot wait! With all the excitement with our friends and family it’s lovely to get some time just for us two.”
